We chose to stay with Margaret & Nicki for three nights, in order to have a little rest from driving from place to place. This turned out to be a good decision because we got the warm welcome that we had grown accustomed to in NZ B&Bs and we were very comfortable there. The living room has a large and very effective wood-burning stove, making it nice and cosy in the evening. We are sure there will be enough wood for the stove, whenever one visits, because Margaret showed us her very extensive wood store! At breakfast, we had a great view across the garden, and the bay, to mountains with snow-capped peaks (the photo should give you some idea of it, but the reality is better).
We came to Kaikoura to see whales (of course) but we also thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful walk round the peninsula (thanks to Margaret’s advice) and a visit to the remarkable seal nursery further up the coast (also thanks to Margaret’s advice).
